Knabe is a German manufacture who moved to the United States before Steinway.
Even though this does not have the recognition of a Steinway,it is a hand crafted premium piano. This piano is manufactured before the modern assembly lines by Artisans.
Knabe was founded in Baltimore in 1839, Knabe was to become one of the most distinguished American piano makers.
The tone quality of their pianos which were initially advertised under the slogan "Pianos of quality for genteel people of means" was greatly admired by leading virtuosos like d'Albert and Saint-Saens, and wherever they were exhibited, they were invariably awarded prices for high workmanship and superior construction.
The Japanese government selected Knabe pianos to be used in all their schools and among many artist enlisted to play their pianos was Rubistein.
For the opening of the Carnegie Hall in 1891, Knabe sponsored the appearance of Tchaikovsky as guest conductor.
Albert Einstein, a devoted music lover, owned a Knabe piano, as did Francis Scott Key (composer of "The Star-Spangled Banner").
Knabe piano was the official choice of the Metropolitan Opera in New York for over forty years.
